Louis Vuitton Unveils Monterey Ceramic Watches: A Modern Revival

Sep 28, 2026, 3:04 PM

Louis Vuitton introduces its new Monterey Ceramic models, expanding on the 2025 revival of the classic Monterey watch, originally designed in 1988 by architect Gae Aulenti. Unlike its limited-edition predecessor, these new iterations are set to become a permanent fixture in the brand's collection, emphasizing ceramic craftsmanship and a refined aesthetic. These timepieces maintain the original 37mm case size, featuring both classic black and a distinct green ceramic finish, while incorporating an automatic LFTMA01.02 caliber. The design eschews the complications found in earlier versions, focusing instead on a streamlined, time-only display with a railroad minutes track.

The collection presents two distinct versions: a black ceramic model with a familiar white dial, marked by striking black and red accents and contrasting hands, and an innovative green ceramic variant featuring a matching green dial and vibrant yellow syringe hands. Both dials are lacquered with a matte varnish, creating a unique texture that differs from the grand feu enamel of the 2025 Monterey. The manufacturing process involves multiple firing stages for the acrylic-stamped dial markings, ensuring durability and precise detailing. A steel crown with Clous de Paris decoration positioned at 12 o'clock completes the elegant design.

The Monterey Ceramic models are noteworthy for their distinctive caseback design, which, true to the original, foregoes traditional lugs. Instead, a suspended caseback allows for a single-pass leather strap, offering a unique and comfortable fit. These watches are available at Louis Vuitton boutiques for $22,900. Their blend of historical design, modern materials, and mechanical sophistication is poised to attract a broader audience, reflecting Louis Vuitton's commitment to evolving its iconic watch designs.

The resurgence of the Monterey collection highlights the enduring appeal of thoughtfully designed timepieces. Louis Vuitton’s dedication to blending heritage with innovation offers a compelling vision for the future of luxury watchmaking, inviting enthusiasts to appreciate the art of watch design anew.
