Glashütte Original has launched two new flyback chronographs, the Senator Chronograph and the Senator Chronograph Navigator, as successors to the existing Senator Chronograph Panorama Date collection. These timepieces present a renewed focus on refined dimensions and distinct aesthetic identities.
The Senator Chronograph Navigator marks a significant shift for the Senator line, moving away from its traditional classical cues. Unlike most Senator models that prominently feature Roman numerals, the Navigator adopts a more practical, tool-watch-inspired design. Its matte black dial showcases three-dimensional, luminous Arabic numerals, ensuring excellent visibility, complemented by white printed text for sharp contrast. The running seconds and elapsed minutes subdials are intricately snailed, and the expansive Panorama Date display at six o'clock is bordered by a recessed faceting. The hands are either generously filled with Super-LumiNova for primary indications or finished with white lacquer for secondary functions, enhancing legibility.
Conversely, the Senator Chronograph, without the Navigator designation, offers a more conventional yet refreshed appearance. It retains a familiar elegance with a galvanic silver dial, lending it a soft white hue. This classic variant features applied Roman numerals crafted from solid gold and coated in a matching blue, harmonizing with the fully blued steel hands. This iteration provides a refined alternative for those who prefer the traditional Senator aesthetic.
Both new models share identical case specifications, crafted from stainless steel with a 41mm diameter and a thickness of 12.9mm. The lug-to-lug measurement stands at 48.5mm. This represents a notable reduction from the previous 42mm diameter and nearly 2mm in height, resulting in a more comfortable and balanced wearing experience. The Navigator model features a largely brushed case with polished accents and a conical crown, while the classic Senator Chronograph is entirely polished. This stylistic difference extends to the bracelets as well, with the Navigator offering a fully brushed steel option and the classic Senator featuring a polished center link design.
At the heart of both watches lies the in-house automatic Caliber 37-24, a sophisticated movement that includes flyback chronograph functionality, the signature oversized Panorama Date, and a silicon balance spring. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the caliber boasts an impressive 70-hour power reserve. A key design evolution from the previous Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is the removal of the 12-hour totalizer at 12 o'clock, which creates a cleaner dial layout and allows for greater prominence of the Glashütte Original logo. The power reserve indicator, previously discreetly integrated into the small-seconds subdial, is now more prominently displayed. Consistent with Glashütte Original's high standards, the movement showcases exquisite finishing, including Glashütte striping and contrasting blued screws. The exhibition caseback reveals a subtly modified, more skeletonized rotor design.
The new Senator Chronograph and Senator Chronograph Navigator are available at a price of $17,100 when paired with a steel bracelet. For those preferring a textile or alligator leather strap, the price is set at $16,100.
