The Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) recently marked a significant double milestone: its 42nd year since establishment and 16 years of active operation at its Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) facility. This celebratory event saw the esteemed presence of His Excellency Mr. Pierre Steverlynck, the Consul General of Belgium in Mumbai, as the chief guest. The occasion was a tribute to both the forward-thinking founders who envisioned a unified hub for the diamond trade over four decades ago and the unwavering dedication of the staff whose professionalism ensures smooth daily functions.

During the welcoming address, BDB Vice President, Mehul Shah, underscored the profound importance of these anniversaries. He stated that the BDB, initially conceived as a vision, has evolved into the world's preeminent operational diamond exchange, symbolizing India's dominant position in the global diamond sector and its pursuit of excellence across all operational facets. Shah emphasized the special significance of the Belgian Consul General's presence, highlighting the deep-rooted relationship between Antwerp and Mumbai, a bond of trust, commerce, and friendship that spans over a century and is committed to enduring for generations to come.

Anoop Mehta, President of the BDB, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Steverlynck, acknowledging his recent appointment as Consul General. Mehta expressed confidence that this would be the first of many visits, noting the consulate's close proximity to the BDB complex. He further elaborated on the consistently strong relationship between the BDB leadership and the Belgian consulate, built upon the historical ties between the diamond industries of their respective nations. Mehta also commended the numerous employees for their long-term commitment to the Bourse, encouraging them to channel their suggestions for ongoing enhancements through their departmental heads.

Mr. Steverlynck, on his inaugural visit to the Bourse since assuming his diplomatic role, conveyed his deep admiration for the advanced facilities available to exporters within the complex. He assured the trade community of continued cooperation and support, expressing his personal delight in celebrating such a distinguished institution as the BDB, which has become a fundamental pillar of India's thriving diamond industry. He praised the leadership's guidance and honored the long-serving employees, recognizing their collective knowledge and extensive experience as an invaluable asset to the industry.

The ceremony culminated in the presentation of special long-service awards to employees reaching significant tenure milestones, including those who had dedicated 30, 25, 15, 10, and 5 years of service to the organization, acknowledging their crucial role in the BDB's enduring success and secure environment.

The celebration not only commemorated the historical journey of the Bharat Diamond Bourse but also reinforced its critical standing in the international diamond trade. The event served as a powerful testament to the collaborative spirit and enduring partnerships that define the global diamond industry, particularly between India and Belgium. It highlighted the organization's commitment to both its strategic visionaries and its dedicated workforce, whose collective efforts ensure its continued prosperity and reputation as a world-class institution.
