Armin Strom's Mirrored Force Resonance Zeitgeist 1665 3N: A Fusion of Heritage and Innovation

Oct 19, 2026, 6:11 PM

Armin Strom has introduced a refined version of its acclaimed Mirrored Force Resonance timepiece, the Zeitgeist 1665 3N, which showcases a stunning yellow gold-toned movement. This latest model builds upon a concept first conceived by Christiaan Huygens in the 17th century concerning the synchronization of pendulums through resonance. Armin Strom has masterfully adapted this historical principle into a modern wristwatch, employing a unique patented clutch mechanism that ensures stable and reliable resonance, even when worn.

The Mirrored Force Resonance, initially launched in 2016, revolutionized horology by bringing a historically challenging concept into the realm of practical, everyday wear. Unlike previous attempts by other esteemed watchmakers, Armin Strom's patented resonance clutch allows two independent regulating systems to maintain perfect synchronicity, significantly enhancing chronometric precision. The Zeitgeist 1665 edition, which previously featured rose gold-coated bridges, sought to evoke a sense of an imagined vintage timepiece that Huygens himself might have designed. This new 3N variant takes that vision further, incorporating yellow gold coloration for its mainplate and bridges, lending a more classical appearance to its distinctly modern mechanical architecture.

While the technical prowess of the Mirrored Force Resonance remains consistent across its iterations, the Zeitgeist 1665 3N primarily distinguishes itself through its aesthetic enhancements. The yellow gold treatment of the movement's components provides a striking contrast with the watch's contemporary design elements, creating a captivating retro-futuristic appeal. This design choice, along with a classic lacquered white dial, was inspired by imagining what such a sophisticated mechanism would have looked like in Huygens' era.

Encased in a 43mm stainless steel structure, the watch maintains the brand's characteristic design, including a subtly integrated lip at 6 o'clock. The case itself features a meticulous combination of polished and vertically brushed surfaces, exemplifying Armin Strom's dedication to refined craftsmanship. Complementing this is a dark grey Alcantara strap with matching stitching, providing both comfort and a sophisticated touch. The movement, visible through the sapphire crystal, is the true star. The 3N yellow gold finish on the mainplate and bridges, combined with matt surfaces and hand-bevelled edges, creates a visually rich and complex tableau.

A notable update in this 3N edition is the black polished lacquered chapter ring positioned over the movement. This design choice not only enhances legibility for the hours, minutes, and twin-seconds but also provides a more pronounced contrast with the intricate yellow gold components below. The in-house Calibre ARF21-ZG operates at 3.5Hz, delivering an impressive 80-hour power reserve from its twin barrels. Furthermore, the movement incorporates a flyback mechanism, enabling simultaneous resetting of both seconds hands via a pusher at 10 o'clock. As expected from Armin Strom, the finishing is impeccable, reflecting their rigorous assembly process, where each watch is put together twice to ensure flawless operation.

This limited edition of 25 pieces, priced at CHF 82,000, represents a harmonious blend of historical horological innovation and modern mechanical artistry, appealing to collectors who appreciate both technical sophistication and distinctive design.
